New Songs, New Stages, and a Whole Lot of Community

Going Solo at Market Square — Field Testing New Music
Last Friday I had a solo set at Market Square, and honestly, it was one of those gigs that reminded me why I do this.
I played a bunch of new songs — material I haven't released yet. That's kind of the whole point of these solo shows for me. It's a field test. I read the room, feel the energy, and let the audience give me real feedback without them even knowing they're doing it. What lands? What needs work? What makes someone stop walking and actually listen? I can't always get that data in a rehearsal room.
I'll be honest — I'm always nervous going into these sets. The style of songs I'm working on right now pushes me vocally, musically and emotionally in ways that feel exposed. But one of the biggest lessons I keep coming back to, in music and in life, is that growth lives in discomfort. If I'm not a little scared, I'm probably not growing. So I keep putting myself in those situations — almost “forcing the evolution.”
The crowd was kind. People said some really generous things to me, and the tips reflected that too. That kind of warmth means everything, especially when I’m out there trying something new.
Showing Up for the “Babes In the Burgh” at the Babesburgh Festival
Saturday, June 6th I was out at the Babeburgh Festival — not as a performer,, but as support. My girlfriend Steph runs Paradigm Expansions, her Spiritual Coaching business, and I was there to support her and help set up and run her table.
***Check out what she's building. Here’s the website link. Paradigm Expansions
Also, Steph is now a published author! She has a new book coming out this fall called: “The D Word.” It’s a book about pain and loss that transforms into self-discovery and empowerment. Once the cover is finalized, I’ll share the pre-order link! I’m so freaking proud of her. She’s been working so hard on the book and her business, I’m excited to see the heights she’ll reach with both.
My son's girlfriend Maddy came through and helped at the table with activities, business prompts and information while Steph was teaching Yoga and keeping the wellness schedule running simultaneously. “Teamwork makes the work a dream!”-- is a little saying me and Steph have and Babesburgh was an example of working together in full effect.
There were storms threatening all day, and we had a brief moment where it wasn’t looking good. But low and behold the aggressive winds calmed and the sun came out and stayed. The energy was positive, and the vibe was exactly what it needed to be.
What I love most about this event is the community it represents. An event full of women from diverse backgrounds who are betting on themselves, building something real, and supporting each other in the process. There's something contagious about that kind of courage and energy. I'm always glad to be a part of it, even in a supporting role. It was a special day.
